Wilkinson served as part of the 10th Battalion of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and he was part of the “B” Company. Wilkinson’s battalion moved to France in 1915 and in 1916 participated in the Recapture of the Bluff, the Capture of St. Eloi Craters, Wulverghem (German gas attacks) as well as the Battle of Bazentin Ridge, the Battle of Delville Wood and the Battle of Ancre.
