Additional Information

one of just three children to survive from a total of twelve born to John Jones, a quarryman, and his wife, Annie Elizabeth who ran a grocery shop at Bristol House on the corner of Chapel and Bridge Streets in Corris. Samuel left home to work in the South Wales coal mines, returning after the death of his father in 1915. When his call-up papers arrived he appealed unsuccessfully for exemption.
