Lusitania Sunk

7/5/1915

The luxury passenger liner, Lusitania, is torpedoed by a German U-Boat (submarine) while crossing the Atlantic. She sank within 18 minutes and 1,191 people lost their lives. This leads to anger in America over Germany's naval policies.

Some notable Welshmen who survived the sinking include David Alfred Thomas, First Viscount Rhondda, and Gwynn Parry Jones, a tenor from Blaina, Monmouthshire.
