Cardiff Race Riot
11/6/1919
A riot breaks out in the Cardiff Docks area, leaving three men dead and dozens injured. Like in Newport and other ports like Liverpool, the riot was as a result of growing tensions between white and foreign workers over jobs and houses, which were in short supply after the war. This led to four days of intense fighting in the streets of Cardiff where black seamen and workers were targeted.
On the same day, Fred Longman, a dock labourer, was stabbed to death in Barry by a black sailor.
