Sinking of HMS Amphion

6/8/1914

HMS Amphion (launched in 1911) was a Royal Navy scout cruiser – a small, fast and lightly armoured warship. She was built at Pembroke Dock and became the first Royal Navy ship to be sunk in the First World War after hitting a German mine near the east coast of England. One hundred and fifty-one men lost their lives, including sailors from Pembrokeshire.
