Conscientious objector arrested
29/5/1916
Morgan Jones of Gelligaer, Caerphilly, was arrested from his parents’ home in Bargoed for refusing to perform military service. He was imprisoned as a conscientious objector at Kinmel Park Army Camp and at Wormwood Scrubs where he was subjected to hard labour. He spent time in and out of prison until after the war.
Jones was a member of the Labour Party and, in 1921, he was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Caerphilly. He was the first conscientious objector to be elected to Parliament after the war.
