Welshpool man awarded VC

18/9/1918

Lance-Sergeant William Herbert Waring of the 25th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, was awarded the Victoria Cross following his death, on this day, at Ronssoy in France. He led his men in an attack against enemy machine guns, under very heavy fire, and single-handedly captured 20 enemy soldiers with their guns. Sadly, Lance-Sergeant Waring was mortally wounded during the assault.
